Personal Integrity
As someone who will make a living from other people's problems, integrity is an essential thing to uphold a good patient-doctor relationship. It is important that I practice this every day by the way I conduct myself in school and at work. It is very easy nowadays to cheat in school because most of it is done online. But integrity is about how one acts behind closes doors, and I'd be doing myself no justice by cheating through my degree. A small thing I watch about people and I use it to judge them are people who put a shopping cart back after shopping. A small practice that does not benefit the person doing it, but will help out someone else in the long run. I watch people leave them in the road and parking lots in a rush to get out of the cold, with no regard for the person who will have to come to gather them from the parking lot later that night. All that being said, at the end of the day small practices in your life make up whether you are an ethical person or not. And it is integral to my life that I uphold these practices.
Ethics in the Workplace
As stated above, I am entering a profession that is reliant upon others' problems. So upholding good ethical standards will be a large role in my everyday life. It is important to practice this within the office and outside. If someone is trusting me with intimate details of their lives then it is key to their success to be comfortable with me and know that it is a safe space to talk. My reaction to them will play a large role if they feel open to talking. Body language plays a big role in ethical practices. Slouching and not making eye contact is not a great way to invite someone to talk.
